Earth has many names—globe, planet, world—but what is consistent with each name is that there is only one. There is only one Blue Marble and everyone who inhabit it have a duty to maintain its survival for centuries to come.
Stream Energy believes in this cause and is playing a big part in cleaning up the human habitat. From our “Green and Clean” rate plans, to our Clean Nation initiative and volunteer commitments, Stream Energy is dedicated to the survival of our planet.
In cooperation with our loyal customers and Independent Associates, Stream Energy offset more than 362 million kilowatt-hours of traditional energy with clean, renewable energy. And that was just in 2012 alone.
This collaborative effort is due to the procurement of hundreds of thousands of Renewable Energy Certificates (REC). One REC represents the procurement of 1,000 kilowatts of clean electricity derived from renewable sources. So what do the offset 362 million kilowatt-hours in 2012 really mean?
The offsetting of 362 million kilowatt-hours of energy in 2012 by Stream Energy is equivalent to*:
- The annual greenhouse gas emissions of 53,236 passenger vehicles
- The CO2 emissions from 28,646,912 gallons of gasoline
- The carbon sequestered annually from 209,451 acres of U.S. forests
- The reduction of 563,346,548 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere
Stream Energy is excited to continue these great initiatives in 2013 and expects to surpass the numbers in 2012. We’re doing our part to help protect nature and Mother Earth.
The firm is also expanding it’s reach within the local community with efforts such as our participation in the Second Saturday Shoreline Spruce-Up event at White Rock Lake — a monthly event, organized and produced by the “For the Love of the Lake” and “Adopt-a-Shoreline” groups.
We would love for our neighbors and friends to come out and join us at the next event on Saturday, May 11 to help clean up White Rock Lake and keep our community clean.
Earth Day is a reminder for us all to help do our part. Whether it be volunteering in your community or offsetting your energy usage through a green initiative, we invite you to join Stream Energy’s fight in maintaining our habitat for centuries to come.
